School Overview/Principal's Welcome

Welcome to the St Marks's school website. St Mark’s Special National School was established in 1974, and moved to its present location on Station Road in November 1978.

It is a co-educational school for pupils who have been assessed as having a mild general learning disability.

We aim to provide a caring, learning environment which facilitates the nurturing and development of each pupil's full educational potential.

St.Mark's recognises that all pupils are individuals with personal gifts, strengths and needs, and we offer individualised education to all pupils which is centred around their own personal Individual Educational Plan. This individualised learning is dovetailed with national programmes which results in certification at Levels 1,2 or 3 for Junior Cycle students and QQI Level 1,2 or 3 modules at Senior Cycle.

As the vast majority of students in St. Marks are of post primary age, this certification offers our students a real sense of achievement in line with mainstream schools. This achievement is then recognised throughout the school which positively prepares our primary class which is made up of 5th and 6th class students, for transition to Junior Cycle.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to parents and families who are interested in finding more out about our school either through our web site or contacting the school office on 045-432466.

We enjoy visitors coming to our school but with a prior appointment as this minimises disruption to the classes and the timetables.
