Primary Class do the Blubber Glove Experiment
Equipment:
2 large bowls
Ice
Lard
Gloves
Plastic bags
Method:
- We filled 2 bowls with ice and water.
- We filled 1 plastic bag with lard
- Every student wore rubber gloves
- We each put one hand in the blubber bag & the other hand just had a glove on. We had to make sure that the lard completely covered one hand.
- We put a hand in each bowl and started a timer.
- We were timing how long we could stand the cold.
- Everybody took their glove hand out much sooner than their blubber glove hand. We were able to keep the hand with the blubber in the water for much longer.
Conclusion
The Lard/blubber helped to keep our hand warm for longer. So now we know that blubber helps animals like polar bears to stay warm in icy water.
